What's new about electric snowmobiles?

By Alex Garin in New Electric Vehicles 37 views 29th Jan, 2026 Video Duration: N/A

The 2026 winter season marks a significant step forward in the evolution of electric snowmobiles, with major manufacturers expanding their zero-emission offerings to meet growing demand for quieter, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly winter recreation and utility vehicles.

Leading the charge is BRP (Bombardier Recreational Products), which has broadened its electric lineup under the Ski-Doo and Lynx brands. Building on the success of last year's Grand Touring Electric, Ski-Doo has introduced the 2026 Expedition Electric, priced starting at $17,499 (transportation and preparation not included). This versatile crossover model, built on the advanced REV Gen5 platform, features the proprietary Rotax E-Power electric drivetrain, delivering instant torque, smooth operation, and excellent traction in varied snow conditions—including light powder and groomed trails. It is designed for short-distance travel, making it ideal for commercial applications like ski resorts, guided tours, outfitters, ice fishing, or personal property use where towing capability and flotation are needed. The Grand Touring Electric, also starting at $17,499, remains available as a premium 2-up touring option focused on groomed trails and guided experiences, emphasizing serenity without engine noise or emissions.

Both models benefit from Level 2 automotive-standard charging, achieving up to 80% charge in about 90 minutes and a full charge in under 3 hours. Estimated ranges vary by conditions but support up to around 30-50 km (18-31 miles) per charge, positioning them well for niche but expanding use cases in eco-sensitive areas.

Lynx, BRP's European-focused brand, debuts its first fully electric model for 2026: the Adventure Electric. This emission-free sled uses the same Rotax E-Power technology, offering immediate power delivery (peak around 47 horsepower / 35 kW), silent riding, and up to 50 km of range. It targets family fun, quiet exploration, and low-impact winter activities, with no exhaust fumes or engine roar to disrupt the natural surroundings.

Meanwhile, Canadian innovator Taiga Motors has rolled out international deliveries of its upgraded 2026 Nomad, starting at $19,499. This wide-stance, 2-up utility electric snowmobile emphasizes capability with up to 120 horsepower (90 kW peak), towing capacity around 1,125 lb (511 kg), and an estimated range of up to 100 km (62 miles). The 2026 version introduces major hardware improvements—like optimized stator windings for better thermal efficiency (over 15% gain), enhanced battery cooling for sustained power, and durable sliders in collaboration with DuPont—as well as software enhancements including custom drive modes, digital keys, and speed controls via the Taiga mobile app. Many updates are deliverable over-the-air to existing owners, highlighting the connected future of electric powersports.

Major competitors like Polaris and Arctic Cat have focused their 2026 lineups on advanced two-stroke and four-stroke models, with features such as new suspensions, limited editions, and electric-assist power steering in select gas-powered sleds—but no full-electric snowmobiles have been announced from them yet.

Industry observers note that while electric snowmobiles currently excel in short-range, low-noise scenarios (resorts, tours, utility tasks), challenges like cold-weather battery performance and range limitations mean they complement rather than fully replace traditional gas-powered machines for high-performance or long-distance deep-snow riding. Still, with tightening environmental regulations in sensitive winter areas and rising interest in sustainable recreation, the segment is gaining momentum.

Experts predict continued growth in the electric snowmobile market through the late 2020s, driven by technological refinements and broader adoption in commercial and eco-tourism sectors. For riders seeking a peaceful, emission-free way to experience winter landscapes in 2026, these new models offer compelling options that blend innovation with practicality.
