Test driving the new electric Scania in Norway snow

By Alex Garin in EV Market News 583 views 3rd Feb, 2023 Video Duration: N/A
The new generation of Scania battery trucks with R or S sleeper cabs is part of a complete solution that will open the door to electrified transport for a large number of customers. With 624 kWh batteries, Scania improves the performance of electric trucks in the regional transport sector.
In the new Scania range, customers will be able to use frame trucks or combinations of tractors and semi-trailers, for example for transporting temperature-controlled food. Range depends on weight, configuration and terrain, but a 4×2 truck equipped with six batteries can travel up to 350 km on a single charge at an average speed of 80 km/h on motorways. The most favorable are fixed routes that include scheduled charging at a home park or destination. The possibility of recharging during the mandatory 45-minute rest of the driver will, of course, increase the range.
The new Scania BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) trucks can be ordered as a two-axle tractor or as a three-axle delivery truck with a 6x2x4 wheel arrangement. A 4x2 tractor will need 4150 mm axle spacing when equipped with six batteries, thus benefiting from oversized vehicle regulations in Europe. The total mass of the road train will be about 64 tons.

The charging power is up to 375 kW, which means that an hour of charging typically increases the range by 270-300 km. The Scania 45 R or S has a continuous power output level of 410 kW (equivalent to approximately 560 hp). Scania's next-level electrified trucks can already be ordered through dialogue with Scania representatives, with production starting in the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Swedish truck manufacturer is also ready to offer its customers a complete charging infrastructure solution.
