Hyundai’s debut electric vehicle for the Chinese market, the Elexio EO, will begin pre-sales on October 16, 2025. Unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show in August, this mid-size electric SUV boasts a range of up to 722 km (CLTC) and targets China’s competitive EV market.

Developed by Hyundai’s Beijing-based joint venture, Beijing Hyundai, the Elexio EO is built on a new EV platform tailored for China. It features a sleek, aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of 0.27, flush door handles, and a streamlined silhouette. The SUV measures 4,685 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, positioning it as a competitor to models like the BYD Song PLUS EV and Tesla Model Y.

The Elexio EO offers two powertrain options: a single-motor variant with 160 kW (215 hp) and a dual-motor AWD version with 320 kW (429 hp), combining 160 kW front and rear motors. Battery options include 60.14 kWh and 80.18 kWh packs, delivering ranges of 550 km and 722 km (CLTC), respectively. It supports fast charging, reaching 80% from 10% in 25 minutes under optimal conditions.

Inside, the Elexio EO features a minimalist cabin with a large central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and an optional head-up display. It includes advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated parking. The vehicle also offers OTA updates and a smart infotainment system tailored for Chinese consumers.

Pricing is expected to range from 200,000 to 300,000 yuan (approximately $28,300 to $42,400), with final prices to be confirmed at pre-sale. The Elexio EO will compete in China’s crowded EV market, where Hyundai aims to regain ground against dominant local brands like BYD and NIO.

Pre-sale orders open on October 16, with deliveries expected to start in early 2026. Hyundai’s push into China’s EV market signals its commitment to electrification in the world’s largest automotive market.
