BYD Yangwang U9 Track Edition. This is a real monster!

By Electromobili in New Electric Vehicles 424 views 9th Aug, 2025 Video Duration: N/A

The U9 Track Edition retains the standard model’s “Time Gate” design language but amps up the aggression with track-focused enhancements. Measuring 4,966-4,991 mm long, 2,029 mm wide, and 1,311-1,351 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, it’s low and wide for optimal stability. A carbon-fiber roof, a massive fixed swan-neck rear wing, and an adjustable rear diffuser with active blades optimize aerodynamics. Optional features include an enhanced carbon-fiber front splitter and an electric rear wing for fine-tuned downforce. The car rides on 20-inch wheels with 325/35 R20 tires, designed to handle its immense power. At 2,480 kg (5,467 lbs), it’s no lightweight, but its double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, paired with BYD’s DiSus-X intelligent body control system, ensure precise handling.

The DiSus-X system, a standout feature, allows the U9 to perform unconventional feats like driving on three wheels or “dancing” to music via synchronized body movements—an entertaining, if gimmicky, showcase of its advanced suspension. This system also provides up to 75 mm of adjustable travel and a 500 mm/s lifting speed, enabling the car to leap over obstacles like potholes, as demonstrated in viral videos.

Track-Proven Pedigree

The standard Yangwang U9 already made waves with a 7:17.900 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, a benchmark for production EVs. The Track Edition, with its doubled power and enhanced aerodynamics, is poised to challenge this record further, with BYD announcing plans for additional high-speed and lap-time tests at the Nürburgring and Germany’s ATP proving ground. The car’s intelligent racing assistant, powered by the DiLink150 platform with 5G connectivity, provides detailed data on nearly 30 Chinese racetracks, enhancing its track-focused appeal.

Luxurious and Tech-Laden Interior

Inside, the U9 Track Edition offers a driver-focused cockpit with two 14-way adjustable seats for optimal support during high-speed driving. The Dynaudio Evidence Series audio system delivers immersive sound, while the DiLink150 platform ensures seamless connectivity. The interior blends luxury with functionality, featuring a super carbon-fiber cabin with a torsional stiffness of 54,425 N·m/deg and a roof capable of withstanding over 11 tons of compressive load, ensuring safety.

Market Impact and Availability

Priced at 1.68 million RMB ($231,000 USD) for the standard U9, the Track Edition is expected to command a premium, though exact pricing remains undisclosed. Deliveries of the standard U9 began in August 2024, with 100 units delivered by late 2024, marking a milestone for Chinese supercars. The Track Edition’s launch date is yet to be confirmed, but its regulatory filing suggests an imminent debut, primarily targeting the Chinese market with potential European expansion.

A New Era for Electric Supercars

The Yangwang U9 Track Edition is a bold statement from BYD, showcasing China’s growing prowess in the hypercar segment. Its 3,019 hp output, advanced DiSus-X suspension, and track-ready design position it as a formidable rival to established players like Rimac and Lotus. While its weight and gimmicky features (like dancing) may raise eyebrows, the U9 Track Edition’s raw performance and technological innovation make it a game-changer. As BYD continues to challenge global automakers, the U9 Track Edition proves that electric supercars can combine blistering speed with cutting-edge flair.
