2028 Quattroporte EV Leads Maserati's Electric Strategy

Maserati, the renowned Italian luxury car manufacturer, recently revealed more details about its electric vehicle (EV) strategy, confirming the anticipated launch of the Quattroporte EV in 2028. This announcement comes alongside news of other electric models set to debut before the flagship sedan, marking a significant shift in the brand's focus towards electrification.

The Road to Electrification: Upcoming Maserati EVs

Maserati's journey towards an electrified future begins with the GranCabrio Folgore, expected to be unveiled later this year, following its internal combustion engine counterpart. This launch is part of Maserati's broader commitment to electrification, extending well beyond 2024. Fans of the brand can also look forward to a zero-emissions version of the MC20, scheduled for release in 2025. Additionally, Maserati plans to introduce a large electric SUV, possibly an all-electric iteration of the Levante, in 2027, setting the stage for the Quattroporte Folgore's debut in 2028. Maserati takes pride in the fact that all these models are 100 percent designed, developed, and manufactured in Italy.

Maserati's CEO on the Electrification Drive

Davide Grasso, CEO of Maserati, expressed the company's ambitious vision for its electrification journey. "Driven by our Modena heart, we are going full throttle to lead change on electrification," said Grasso. "With two of our iconic models already available in their 100 percent electric versions, and another on the way this year, we are committed to offering our customers the most powerful Maseratis ever, ushering in a new era of driving pleasure."

Currently, the two electric models Grasso refers to are the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore, both of which are already available in the European Union. As a part of the Stellantis group, Maserati has positioned itself as the first Italian luxury brand to pivot towards the development and production of all-electric vehicles. The brand's participation in Formula E since 2023 further underscores its commitment to electric mobility.

Stellantis' Strategic Vision: The Dare Forward 2030 Plan

The electrification initiative by Maserati aligns with the broader strategic plan of Stellantis, dubbed "Dare Forward 2030," unveiled on March 1, 2022. This strategy places Maserati as a key player within the Stellantis portfolio, ensuring that all new models from the brand will feature electric powertrains, aligning with the group's vision for a sustainable automotive future.

Challenges on the Horizon

Despite the exciting developments in electrification, Maserati faces some challenges. Stellantis has announced a temporary layoff of 1,000 production workers at Maserati's Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, from February 12 to March 3. This plant is integral to the production of the Quattroporte and other models, indicating some restructuring as the brand transitions towards electric vehicle production.

Conclusion

Maserati's announcement of the Quattroporte EV and its upcoming electric models signifies a major shift in the luxury car industry. As the brand embraces electric technology, it promises to deliver the unparalleled performance and luxury that Maserati is known for, while adapting to the evolving demands of the automotive market. With its dedication to Italian craftsmanship and innovative technology, Maserati is poised to redefine the luxury car experience in an electric era.
