Yangwang U8 Details
BYD, a Chinese automaker known for its electric vehicles, has unveiled its latest creation - the Yangwang U8. This luxury electric SUV features a frame construction and will be showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show this month, with pre-orders to follow.
The company announced its adaptive suspension and a new intelligent body control system, which is another in-house technology following the DM Super Hybrid hybrid system, e-Platform 3.0, Blade battery, and other solutions.
The exterior of the car was designed by Wolfgang Josef Egger, BYD's chief designer. He said he used a design language of "the gate of time and space," combining futuristic elements with a hardcore style. In particular, the grille's matrix grids are inspired by the Kuiper belt on the edge of the solar system.
The new BYD electric SUV measures 5300 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3050 mm. It has a flat roof and hidden door handles, as well as 20- or 22-inch wheels.
The car has numerous sensors, lidars, and cameras for driving assistance, as well as modern LED lighting. LED strips on the rear roof pillar can display the battery level.
The Yangwang U8's powertrain includes four motors, each mounted on a separate wheel. One motor's power is up to 326 hp, with a maximum torque of 420 Nm. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3 seconds. The wheels allow the car to turn 360 degrees in place, allowing for better control in case of damage to one wheel.
The driver of the Yangwang U8 will have access to various driving modes, including ice and snow, sand, a deflated tire to continue driving at speeds of up to 120 km/h, turning on the spot, and swimming mode. According to the developers, the new full electronic drive system responds 100 times faster than traditional four-wheel-drive systems. The Yangwang U8 is also equipped with a waterproof body and engine that are protected according to the IP68 degree description, allowing the SUV to cross bodies of water.
