The world's first super-luxury three-box will debut on the market in the first half of 2023. The young startup Lucid is preparing to bring to market a direct competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid. If earlier the Air sedan claimed the role of the most long-range sedan in the world, then the Lucid Air Sapphire is now aiming for the title of the world's fastest three-volume.
Of course, the Tesla Model S Plaid made a lot of noise, as Elon Musk wanted to visually demonstrate the superiority of his electric car. However, things may change drastically now, and the Lucid Air Sapphire is ready to take on the Model S Plaid's muscle.
"Sapphire is the epitome of what ultra-high-performance luxury means to Lucid. Sapphire is one of the most valuable gemstones, valued for its brilliance, color and hardness. Imperial blue has long been the de facto national color for American motorsport teams competing internationally. As a specialist brand for ultra-high-performance vehicles, Sapphire builds on this history by setting new standards for innovation and technology,"
said Vice President of Brand and Design Derek Jenkins
But now let's move on to the most interesting - to the power plant. If earlier the most powerful version of the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance had two electric motors for 1050 horsepower, then Air Sapphire already boasts three engines with a total output of 1200 hp. This allows the novelty to reach the first hundred in less than 2 seconds.
Of course, the increase in the output of the power plant required some adjustments to the design. The car received reinforced carbon-ceramic brakes, batteries adapted to work with more powerful engines, and the electric motors themselves received improved cooling.
Lucid Air Sapphire will hit the market next year. The price is already known - 249 thousand US dollars. In the meantime, Tesla should urgently work on its sedan in order to keep up with competitors.
