(https://motorwatt.com/community/videos/chinas-heavy-duty-electric-truck-sector) [ China's heavy-duty electric truck sector ](https://motorwatt.com/community/videos/chinas-heavy-duty-electric-truck-sector) https://motorwatt.com/community/videos/chinas-heavy-duty-electric-truck-sector

China's heavy-duty electric truck sector (primarily Class 8 equivalents for long-haul, regional haul, dump, mixer, and tractor applications) is experiencing explosive growth in 2025-2026, far outpacing other global markets. Battery-electric heavy trucks captured 22% of new heavy-duty sales in the first half of 2025 (up from ~9% in H1 2024), rising to 28% by August 2025. Forecasts indicate nearly 46% penetration in 2025 overall and around 60% in 2026, driven by falling costs, battery-swapping infrastructure (now ~40% of deployments), government incentives, and standardized swappable packs like CATL's 75# module (compatible with dozens of models). While few entirely new flagship models were announced in late 2025/early 2026 beyond ongoing expansions, the market features rapid iterations, new variants, and aggressive scaling from major players. Key developments and models include:Sany Heavy Industry (top seller in electric heavy trucks): Continues dominating with battery-swapping and plug-in models for construction, logistics, and haul. Sany plans to export its electric trucks to Europe starting in 2026, having already shipped to the US, Thailand, India, UAE, and others. No brand-new model announcements in recent months, but production ramps and autonomous integrations (e.g., with Pony.ai for Gen-4 trucks mass production in 2026) support growth.BYD: Expanded lineup includes electric tractors, dump trucks, and mixers for long-haul and urban construction. Showcased models at the 2025 China Commercial Vehicles Show (e.g., Q3 electric tractor). BYD broke ground on an electric truck/bus factory in Hungary in 2025 to support European exports and meet carbon targets.Foton (BAIC Foton): Active in heavy-duty EVs, including refrigerated variants like the OLLIN iBlue El-Plus for cold-chain. New cyber-style Cavan Beacon (joint with Bosch Ventures/Boyuan Capital) launched late Q1 2026 expectations—features streamlined cabin, camera mirrors, dual motors (up to 350 kW), ~500 km range, and 6x4/4x4 configs for heavy haul.Other major players (Dongfeng, Sinotruk, FAW, XCMG, Zoomlion, Shacman): Rapidly shifting to new energy powertrains. Sinotruk and FAW report strong NEV sales growth (>200% YoY in some periods). Dongfeng launched G-Series high-end heavy-duty brand (including electric variants) at 2026 summits. New models often focus on battery-swapping compatibility, high-power motors, and vocational uses.Windrose Technology (Chinese startup): Launched R700 Class 8 electric semi in the US (2025), with >418-mile range (700+ kWh battery), low drag (0.2755 Cd), and plans for Georgia assembly plant to avoid tariffs. Aiming for 2025-2026 deliveries; positioned as Tesla Semi rival.Broader trends: Battery swapping accelerates adoption (CATL targets 300 stations by end-2025, expanding nationwide). High-power charging demos (e.g., 1.39 MW triple-gun setups) emerge. Exports surge, with Chinese firms enabling global decarbonization where local supply lags. The sector prioritizes short/medium-haul and vocational applications due to infrastructure advantages, though long-haul improves with swapping and megawatt charging. Challenges remain (e.g., grid strain, standardization), but momentum positions China to lead globally, with projections of 50-80% electrification by 2028.For visuals of recent Chinese heavy-duty EVs (e.g., Sany swapping models, BYD tractors, Foton/Cavan designs, and high-power charging demos):These examples highlight the practical, high-volume designs dominating China's market. The shift is reshaping global diesel/LNG demand and pressuring Western OEMs to accelerate

Contemporary **Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL)**, the world's leading battery manufacturer, has unveiled its longest battery swapping network for heavy-duty electric trucks through its subsidiary Qiji Energy. The new route spans **1,250 km** along the Sichuan-Chongqing-Hubei section of the Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, marking a significant milestone in commercial electric vehicle infrastructure.

Launched on December 23, 2025, this network allows drivers to swap batteries in about five minutes, with stations compatible with over **95%** of mainstream heavy-duty truck models in China. Each standardized battery module delivers **171 kWh** of capacity, and trucks can equip one to three modules based on route needs and load requirements. Drivers can reserve swaps and plan optimal routes via Qiji's cloud platform.

The advanced modules incorporate thermal diffusion prevention and Cell-to-Pack (CTP) technologies for enhanced safety and efficiency. According to CATL, the battery swap model can reduce annual operating costs by **30,000 to 60,000 yuan (approximately $4,300 to $8,500 USD)** per truck while significantly lowering carbon emissions. For a typical heavy-duty truck traveling 200,000 km annually, switching to electric with battery swapping avoids emissions equivalent to the CO₂ absorbed by nearly 9,643 trees per year.

Qiji Energy is prioritizing the business-to-business (B2B) segment before expanding into consumer markets, aiming to gather feedback and build brand strength. The company has ambitious plans to construct a nationwide network covering **180,000 km** by 2030, encompassing 80% of China's truck transportation capacity and 16 major urban clusters. This development comes amid booming demand for new energy heavy-duty trucks in China. In November 2025, sales surged 178% year-on-year to 28,000 units, pushing market penetration above **30%** for the first time. Cumulative sales from January to November reached 187,000 units, with penetration rising to 25.95% from **12.54%** the previous year.

CATL's push into heavy-duty truck battery swapping underscores its strategy to dominate electrification beyond passenger EVs, supporting China's goals for sustainable logistics and reduced emissions in the trucking sector.

DHL Accelerates Green Logistics with First Tesla Semi Delivery
BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – Dec. 7, 2025 – Global logistics leader DHL Supply Chain has taken delivery of its first all-electric Tesla Semi, bolstering its North American fleet of Class 8 electric vehicles to over 150 units and advancing its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
The truck, now based in Central California, completed a rigorous two-week trial covering nearly 5,000 km (3,100 miles) at an average speed of 80 km/h, achieving an impressive efficiency of 1 kWh/km (or 1.72 kWh/mile). In one standout test, the fully loaded Semi—hauling 34 tonnes (75,000 lbs)—traveled 628 km (390 miles) on a single charge, surpassing Tesla's promised 500-mile range for heavy-duty freight.
" Our pilot exceeded expectations, proving the Semi's ability to haul typical DHL freight over long distances efficiently," said Jim Monkmeyer, President of Transportation for DHL Supply Chain North America. The vehicle now logs about 100 miles daily, charges weekly, and is projected to cut annual greenhouse gas emissions by 50 metric tons.
Tesla Semi Director Dan Priestley praised the partnership: "DHL's longstanding support helps refine the Semi for global markets." DHL, an early 2017 pre-order customer, plans to add more units in 2026 as Tesla ramps up volume production.
This deployment underscores the shift toward electrified heavy-duty trucking, following pioneers like PepsiCo, and positions DHL at the forefront of sustainable supply chains.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, the company's flagship battery-electric long-haul truck, is rapidly moving from demonstration to large-scale fleet integration across Europe. The latest news confirms significant customer adoption and an expanded model portfolio designed to meet a wider array of logistics needs.

1\. Major Fleet Adoption and Deliveries
Since series production began at the Wörth am Rhein plant at the end of 2024, the eActros 600 has entered daily operation in over 15 European countries. Key customers are placing substantial orders, demonstrating confidence in the long-haul capability of the electric truck:

Amazon's Largest Order: Amazon placed its largest-ever order for electric heavy goods vehicles, selecting more than 200 units of the eActros 600 for deployment in its middle-mile networks in the UK and Germany, with the first vehicles entering service in 2025.

Holcim's 1,000-Unit Agreement: Swiss building materials giant Holcim signed a letter of intent to deploy a total of 1,000 eActros 600 units across its European fleet. This is set to be the largest single order for the model to date, with the trucks primarily used with silo trailers for demanding building material transport.

Logistics Deployment: Other major logistics firms, including Simon Loos (75 units ordered) and DHL Group (30 units with leasing partner hylane), are actively incorporating the eActros 600 into their long-distance and distribution operations.

2\. Portfolio Expansion: The eActros 400
To address varying requirements for payload and range, Mercedes-Benz Trucks expanded its second-generation eActros lineup:

Introduction of the eActros 400: Orders opened in October 2025 for the new eActros 400. This variant uses two battery packs (instead of the eActros 600's three), resulting in a shorter range but a significantly higher payload capacity—an advantage for distribution routes with frequent stops.

Modular Options: Both the eActros 400 and eActros 600 are now available with over 40 combination options for the base vehicle, including various wheelbase and cab configurations (the conventional L-cab or the aerodynamic ProCabin).

3\. Charging and Technology Milestones
The eActros 600, which features three LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs with a total capacity of 621 kWh (allowing a 500 km range without intermediate charging), is built for the future of charging:

Current Charging: It currently charges via standard CCS2 connections at up to 400 kW.

Megawatt Charging (MCS) Readiness: The long-haul-focused eActros 600 with the ProCabin is designed to support Megawatt Charging (MCS) in the future, which will reduce the 20% to 80% charge time to approximately 30 minutes once the infrastructure and standardization are fully established.

The widespread deployment and successful pilot tests confirm the eActros 600 is poised to become a dominant force in the decarbonization of European heavy-duty road freight.

- ## ⚡ Australian Electric Truck Sets New Range Benchmark
- SYDNEY, Australia – Zero-emissions trucking company New Energy Transport (NET), in partnership with Multiquip, has completed what is being hailed as Australia's longest-distance single-charge heavy-vehicle delivery.
- The milestone journey involved a [Windrose](https://ev.motorwatt.com/ev-database/database-electric-trucks/windrose-r700-ev "Windrose R700") electric prime mover hauling a total weight of 36 tonnes over a 480-kilometre round trip between Picton (south of Sydney) and Beresfield (near Newcastle)—all without needing to recharge.
- ### Faster and More Productive
- The demonstration proved that electric heavy trucks can now outperform diesel counterparts in productivity. The electric truck completed the journey 40 minutes faster than a diesel equivalent, a time-saving attributed to its superior power delivery, which allowed it to maintain higher speeds on uphill gradients.
- "This is a new kind of trucking company," said NET Co-CEO Daniel Bleakley, emphasizing the service's ability to offer zero-emission road freight that is competitive with diesel on both cost and productivity.
- The trial is part of a larger plan by NET to establish Australia's largest heavy electric trucking depot near Wilton, southwest of Sydney, by mid-2026.

MAN begins serial production of electric trucks

A truly historic moment: after a century of producing diesel trucks, the German auto giant MAN Truck & Bus is starting serial production of electric vehicles.

Now they will be produced together with diesel trucks in a mixed process on one line. The range includes models from 12 to 50 tons of the entire range - from garbage trucks to long-haul trucks.

The Munich plant produces about 100 trucks per day, regardless of the type of drive. The production of one vehicle takes about eight hours.

MAN has previously manufactured 200 electric pre-series trucks for customers. They are equipped with batteries with a range of 500 km and 740 km.

These vehicles have already covered about 2 million km in real conditions - some have traveled up to 850 km per day, and the average consumption was 97 kWh/100 km. MAN has already received around 700 orders for electric trucks.
